ST. GEORGE ISLAND, Fla. (WCTV) - A surfer was attacked by a shark off the coast of St. George Island Thursday afternoon.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at Sikes Cut at the western end of the island around 1 p.m.

An FCSO spokeswoman says the surfer was sitting on his board when the shark bit his hand. He’s been taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

The sheriff’s office says those on scene believe it was a bull shark, but they have no way of knowing for sure.
