This sweet getaway is the perfect place to enjoy all the Island has to officer. The unit was just professionally decorated. It is literally only 300 feet to the sandy beach from the front door. It sleeps 6 comfortably with two separate bedrooms and a sleeping loft. Each room has its own TV. The living room offers family time at its best with a TV and a stereo. Condo is equipped with dishwasher, microwave, and washer/dryer. The sparkling pool has a covered deck and Weber charcoal grills for grilling after a long day at the beach or sightseeing. This location allows you close access to the bike trail that spans the entire length of the island. Within walking distance to this place is waterfront dining offering great outdoor seating and live music most evenings, as well as the St. George Island Lighthouse. Just over the St. George Island Bridge is the bridge to Apalachicola which is one of Florida’s most historic coastal towns offering fresh seafood right out of the bay, fantastic art galleries, antique shops and unique nightlife. Some of the popular pursuits on the island are swimming, walking, running, and cycling. The St. George Island State Park is located at the east end of the island. As a fisherman, I can personally vouch for the great fishing spots. Some of the fish just waiting to be caught are: redfish, flounder, trout, and whiting. Enjoy the world renowned 'Apalachicola' Oysters at most of the local hot spots. St. George Island has one of the world's most stunning beaches and it is just steps from this quaint condo! The kitchen is not equipped with an oven; however, it does have a microwave, small refrigerator, toaster oven, toaster, coffee pot, dishes and cutlery, a Tramontina induction stovetop, and everything else you need to prepare meals. There is an outdoor patio area with a barbecue. Enjoy fishing from the dock and relax with a cocktail while watching the most amazing sunsets. Beach access is a short walk from the apartment. Blue Whale Inn is our family cottage on St. George Island w/direct access to & stellar views, from our deck, of the Gulf of Mexico. It was built in the 70's & Purchased in the early 90's (we are only the second owners). It's available for rent (in 7 or 5 day blocks only) on a limited basis at a very fair price. The Whale is paid for... we're just trying to cover the taxes and insurance. This vacation house is NOT a huge 'beach mansion'. We want to be completely upfront and clear to potential guests regarding (what some people have expressed) as ‘negatives'. The floor is slightly uneven in places (although solid and structurally sound). Not all the windows open (although there is at least 1 fully functional window w/screen in every bedroom). The surrounding grounds are completely natural... there is NO fancy landscaping. The furniture is not new or modern (but quite comfortable). The appliances are not new, but everything works well. The beds however, are all BRAND NEW and TOP QUALITY (less than a year old) :-) For the record: This is a 45 year old 'lived in traditional old school Florida beach house' (we stay there often... our kids spent entire summers there when younger). Although we love the BWI, it might not be suitable for those expecting 'perfect pristine resort quality accommodations' (which are available on the island at 3 or 4 times the price). We consider our place a cozy, clean and comfortable cottage (while maintaining it's original character & charm)... plus, as stated, the cost is very reasonable! We are pleased to be able to offer The Whale as fun/enjoyable option for your family vacation at a reasonable price!! ON THE UPSIDE: we've completed major and full interior renovations/improvements (after Hurricane Michael in 2019). The carpet/sub floor was removed and upgraded with sealed hardwood wide plank flooring throughout (it's an amazing & beautiful transformation). We've added plush area rugs in every room. Drywall (w/eggshell color textured paint) has covered the outdated 70's paneling inside. The 'old school' popcorn ceiling has been scraped & updated with a flat white textured surface. All switches, plugs, wiring and lighting was replaced throughout the home. We have also just finished resurfacing/sealing all exterior decks. New outside furniture has been recently purchased and we've replaced the hot tub enclosure. The location is fantastic... directly across the street from the Gulf with easy access (see pictures and video). It's near the center of the island (309 West Gorrie Drive) and within short walking distance to shops, restaurants & recreation areas. There is very little auto traffic on the road in front of the house, crossing the street to the gulf is not a problem (more bicycles & golf carts pass by than cars). We love the ability to stroll or bike back to the house after an evening of fun at The Blue Parrot or Mango Mike's (both very close). Harry A's is 4 blocks away. The home sleeps 6 comfortably with 3 bedrooms (loft BR with Casper memory foam king pedestal bed and sitting area, master BR with Serta Signature queen bed & additional BR with two Linenspa twin beds (which are designed for kids or young teens). There are ceiling fans in all the lower level rooms (and a wall fan in the loft). There is space under all beds for suitcase storage. There is a large walk in custom tile shower on the main level, a half bath in the loft & outdoor 'open-air' shower on the side (w/soap/shampoo/conditioner). The deck is spacious with a 4 person hot-tub (adjustable temp, 2 speed water jets and bubbles). This cottage is available for WEEK LONG STAYS (although 5 day bookings are sometimes possible off season) at a top rate of $2100 per week. Lower rates are available ‘off season’. Month long stays are also sometimes available (with a discount) off season (call us). We personally use the house a lot, but do enjoy sharing our place. Our rates are quite fair & affordable. They are also NOT NEGOTIABLE (please do not 'make us an offer' or ask for reductions). If you would like to speak with us prior to booking, we're available by phone anytime to fully describe the BWI & answer any questions (our numbers are listed near the end of the photo slides)... We're a unique property. While 90% of our guests have enjoyed the cottage (with many repeat customers over the years), some families have found it's 'not up to their standards'. If you're unsure or have questions... Let's talk in advance & make sure The Whale will be a good fit for your group/family and everyone is on the same page (a opposed to you arriving and being disappointed). We are always available 24/7 by phone or text to address/help with any issues/questions/problems that you might have. We are very proactive and will make every effort to assist in any way. We kindly ask that we are given every opportunity to correct any issues at the start of or during your stay, as opposed to you leaving a negative review after you've left. DVD player and Sirus/XM music. Linens, bath & beach towels, extra blankets & pillows, dishes, cookware and an extensive selection of cooking utensils (while not all perfect or matching) are available. The BWI is stocked w/basics: dishwashing & laundry detergent, additional rolls of bathroom tissue, paper towels, garbage can liners, hand soap, shampoo, lots of cleaning supplies, coffee filters, spices, etc. You would normally have to purchase these at other rental homes, but we are happy to share/provide them for you (while they last). A collection of games, books and DVDs are provided. There are also normally several beach chairs, boogie boards, beach umbrella, kids beach toys (although what's available varies). There's a 'Gorilla Cart' that you are free to use to transport everything to the water front! Our two personal bikes are in the carport. They are a bit old, but feel to use them if you like (at your own risk). There is central AC/heat system (Train) along with new individual wall mounted AC units in each bedroom for personal climate control. The cottage stays CHILL :-) The home & island/beach are 'pet friendly' There are however some restrictions, please inquire when speaking with owner (pets require a non-refundable $100 flat pet fee which covers additional cleaning). No dogs over 60 pounds are allowed (check rental agreement). Pets MUST be kept in a kennel/crate if left unattended in house. Dogs in public areas must be on a leash. If you do bring a pet, we kindly ask that they are kept off sofas/chairs/beds. If you could clean pet hair when you leave it'd be great (lint rollers are under sink). :-) There are no additional charges on our part (no cleaning/service fees) except those assessed by VRBO (which include 9% state of Florida sales tax). All bookings and payments MUST be done through VRBO. We are not legally able to book directly. This home is owner managed (not by a rental company). There is on-site protected direct Wi-Fi high speed internet service. Although my housekeeper in Eastpoint comes over between reservations to wash the sheets/towels, clean the bathrooms, floors, sufaces, etc. to make sure the house is ready, we do ask that each family/guests make every effort to leave the cottage in the condition it was when you arrived & is presentable for the next visitors. This arrangement allows us to keep our rates lower and has worked well. We do have additional maid/cleaning services available at no charge if, upon arrival, you discover anything unsatisfactory (which you should report to us immediately). We also have monthly pest control plus the spa/jacuzzi is serviced/cleaned/sanitized twice weekly (Saturday & Tuesday). The jacuzzi is a thrill.. in the summer, we keep it 'cool' which provides a stimulating experience after a warm day on the beach. When it's chilly at night, you can move the temp 'up' for a relaxing warm night time 'soak'. You need to always rinse off all beach sand/sunscreen using the outdoor shower on the deck prior to 'tubbing'. A place where we could go to sleep with the sound of the surf in our ears. Beautiful views from inside and outside the house, and no logistic struggles to be on the beach. We wanted this house from the moment we saw her. All ISD needed was some love after being a getaway for 30 years. Karen and I did a fairly complete renovation of ISD in the Fall of 2013. New Baths, Kitchen, Mattresses, Fans etc etc etc. ISD is now fully hurricane code correct, with new windows, doors and Board & Batten siding. New flat screen TV's through out the house. Netflix and full cable tv with HD sports channels for the big game weekends. New stainless appliances and a lovely Surf Green granite bar and counters. Huge deck across the front of the house is the place to enjoy the ocean views and sounds. The path to the beach is straight ahead of the house and it takes about 100 steps to be feet wet. Our beautiful beach is a short, 2-minute stroll along a sandy wooded path with no streets to cross. Our home is comfortably furnished with one king, two queens, two twins, and one double convertible bed. You will find a real 'home away from home,' with informal, comfortable furnishings, interesting art and artifacts, and a very well-equipped kitchen. An open vaulted-ceilinged kitchen/dining/living area (with fireplace), one bedroom/bath are on the second floor, to take advantage of the Gulf views. This level also has a screened porch for alfresco dining and 'rockin.' The lower level has three additional bedrooms and 2 baths. A large sundeck with reclining lounge chairs may be accessed from two of the bedrooms. All bedrooms are carpeted, while the living areas have heart pine floors. Guests will find 2 TVs, 2 DVD players, wireless internet, free long distance calling, and a CD player/radio. St. George is a peaceful and beautiful barrier island off Apalachicola, Florida. On the north is Apalachicola Bay (famous for oysters). To the south is the Gulf of Mexico. This is an area very much into eco-ventures, with several local companies providing escorted and self-guided tours into the Apalachicola River/Bay estuary. The Gulf, river and bay offer great boating and fishing opportunities, with local charter companies available to help you plan and achieve your adventure. St. George Plantation has a pool and tennis courts, usually available to guests. Our uncrowded beach speaks for itself. The sand is white, the water is bottle blue/green, and the shells are (usually) plentiful. The birds, dolphins and ghost crabs are free! Morningside by the Sea was built in 1991. We think of it as a family home rather than merely an investment. It is used by us and our kids for more than 16 weeks a year. We hope think you will enjoy Morningside as much as we do and fully expect you will soon love this island as much as we do. If you are looking for water slides, amusement piers. goofy golf and high rise living, this is not for you. If you consider vacation a time to enjoy life, family and nature while doing next to nothing then St George is the place to be. THINGS TO DO AND SEE ST GEORGE ISLAND STATE PARK Don't fail to visit St. George State Park at the opposite end of the island. Here you will find dramatic moonscape dunes, secluded beaches and scenic hiking trails. The East Slough Trail can be accessed from the first large picnic shelter area...cross to the north side of the road and follow the wooden walk. Take bug spray! Trail meanders about 1.4 miles through uplands and along and over marshes. at the end you pass through a camping area with 2 small lakes...look for the gators on the far bank. Return to your car by walking the trail in reverse or by walking west on the beach. ST GEORGE LIGHTHOUSE The lighthouse in the middle of the island was recently relocated and rebuilt following its 2005 collapse at its original location since 1853 on Little St. George Island to the west. A community effort salvaged the brick and much of the lantern frame. In 2008 it was rebuilt using the original construction plans. Pay a small fee and climb to the top for a great view. Visit the replica of the keepers cottage / museum / gift shop at no charge. APALACHICOLA NAT'L ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE ANERR is in East Point near the mainland end of the bridge from the island. Learn what happens when salt and fresh water meet. No charge but contributions appreciated. Museum, small aquarium and touch tanks. Kids love it! Also pick up information on the ANERR access areas on the island and mainland where you can hike, bird-watch and get great photos. HIGH BLUFF TRAIL IN TATE'S HELL STATE FOREST This 4 mile easy trail has its east trailhead on the north side of US 98 about 8 miles east of East Point. Nice trail in good weather (don't try in wet weather unless you want to wade in real scary water). Nice views of sound and marshes. Beautiful wild flowers in season. Take bug spray! Be sure to find out the origin of the name 'Tate's Hell' from the locals. APALACHICOLA This beautiful and historic little town is across two bridges from the island (about 12 miles). Many preserved Victorian and Greek Revival buildings, great restaurants and interesting shops. See the 1907 Gibson Inn Hotel, 1838 Trinity church, Lafayette Park, Maritime Museum and the trail to the river from the parking area at the original ANERR location near Scipio Creek Boat Basin. Also at Scipio Creek is the headquarters St Vincent Island Nat'l Wildlife Refuge where you can obtain passes to visit this undeveloped island. A bit of trivia... in the 1850's local doctor John Gorrie tried to develop a machine to cool his patients habitually suffering from malaria every summer. His machine was a failure as an air conditioner but very successful at making ice - moisture froze on the coils. Today he is credited with inventing artificial ice production...Thank you Dr Gorrie!! See the small museum dedicated to him and his accomplishment. INDIAN PASS RAW BAR On route 30 about 10 miles west of Apalach, this is more an institution than a restaurant. In business in the same building for over 80 years. Old time laid back place. I once arrived at 11:30 for lunch and found it closed. I asked the old man sitting on the bench out front if they would be opening. 'Yep, reckin so.' 'When?' 'Well, when they git here.'...My kind of place! CARABELLE Located on US-98 about 12 miles east of East Point. In the 40's Camp Gordon Johnson near this small town was a major beach assault training center for the US military. Many of the veterans of the Normandy landings trained on the beaches of St George and Dog Islands. Today there is a WW-II museum in town. This is also a big boating and fishing center.

French doors open onto the screened porch overlooking East Bay, where you can take your morning coffee at the table seating 4, or move over to one of two chairs, the perfect spot to relax and tie a lure. This Main Cottage has a separate bedroom with King bed (Peacock Alley linens!), large walk-in closet, and chest, plus 2 twins in a loft setting, easily accommodating up to 3 (4 if couple) guests. The master bathroom area includes a custom cypress vanity with single sink and adjacent area accessed through pocket doors with cast iron claw footed tub and toilet. The 2nd bath has a newly tiled shower, small sink and a toilet, plus full size Maytag washer and dryer. While compact, the kitchen area has top of the line appliances so you can cook your catch easily on the Frigidaire 5 burner gas cook top or in the accompanying Frigidaire electric oven. And keep a week of groceries in the full size refrigerator! Please note that while we have sufficient dishes, cookware & utensils, there is no dishwasher. A Char-Broil propane grill is located at the Guest Cottage. Internet/WiFi is available at the Main Cottage only, which also has a large Sony TV and is ROKU accessible, so don’t forget your Netflix, Amazon, or other ROKU channel passwords! The Guest Cottage with its wrap-around screened porch is located approximately 200 feet away and is crafted of pecky cypress walls and heart pine floors. THE PROPERTY Your own private 200’ dock and fishing pier is there to catch red fish, sea trout, mullet, flounder, and crabs! Or simply settle on the bench to relish the beauty of East Bay at all hours, and look for the abundant wildlife. Bald eagles, pelicans, herons, and ospreys all visit, as does the occasional porpoise! Plus you have 500’ of bay frontage for fishing, frolicking, and kayak launching, and an expansive estuary marsh to the side and rear for both privacy and nature. The sunsets here are spectacular! The Property itself showcases the best of a lushly natural, “Old Florida” style setting while preserving gorgeous views of East Bay. Oak trees strewn with Spanish moss abound, as do magnolias and camellias. Come in the fall and you could see the breathtaking Monarch butterflies taking their last rest before crossing the Gulf to their winter abode. Please note, I am having some issues our City's zoning ordinances, so at this time I am showing monthly rates. For my family and friends who look at my calendar, call me when you want to visit. 850-370-0463. This cozy and comfortable two bedroom/one bath apartment is attached to my home. I live in the historic district in Apalachicola and a steamboat builder built my house in the late 1800’s. In the south, homes were built with the kitchens not part of the main house to prevent the heat going into the home. This apartment at one time was the original kitchen and later attached to the main house. My Mother-In-Law lived in the apartment until she went into nursing care. The apartment has been painted and has new carpet. There is a Queen bed (with new mattress) in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has a full size bed. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. There is also a Queen sleeper sofa in the living room. There is basic cable TV and a DVD player. Free WiFi. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with dishes, pots and pans, flatware, full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender. (Sorry, no dishwasher). There is a washer/dryer unit in the apartment. You will have a small private screened in porch. Plenty of free parking, plus there is room to park your boat/trailer. You are minutes to our Battery Park Marina and one block to the beautiful Apalachicola Bay. This is an extremely safe community and the apartment is in a very quiet residential neighborhood. This is a great area to take walks and to ride bikes. It is about a five-minute walk to our quaint downtown shopping area. We have absolutely fantastic restaurants! Our beautiful St. George Island is less than a 15-minute drive. Extra amenities can be provided for reasonable fees; such as daily housekeeping.

Eating area will accommodate 10 at table with other seating available at kitchen bar and decks. The decks have long views down the beach and there is a bay view from the back bedrooms. There is a private boardwalk to the beach. Home has multiple sliding glass doors on first level, one which opens out to the beautiful screened in porch allowing the gulf breezes to blow in . Home has 2 beautiful screened porches overlooking private pool and hot tub. Pool has a 4' sunning shelf to keep cool during hot summer days. There is a hot tub overlooking the beach. Outdoor screened kitchen has large gas grill. Each bedroom has a private deck with water views. 4 bedrooms are beachfront with adjoining bath. Home is decorated beyond your expectations. 4 kings, 2 queens, 2 twins, 2 twin sleeper sofas We have an outside shower, fishing station with sink, a gas grill (with line run to main propane tank) that is screened next to the pool area and outdoor closet with beach chairs, beach toys and umbrellas. We also provide two kayaks for your usage. All of our decking is by Trek with a boardwalk from the house down to the beach. We have a water line that runs the length of the boardwalk with a spout at each end so that you always have access to water, wash your feet, or whatever you need.
